The Ambient Lighting Palette by Hourglass is a collection of high-tech finishing powders, often referred to as a "real-life filter" for your complexion.
The palettes utilize Photoluminescent Technology, which consists of optically transparent particles that capture, diffuse, and soften the surrounding light. This helps to blur the appearance of imperfections, pores, and wrinkles, giving the skin a soft-focus, lit-from-within glow.
Types of Ambient Lighting Palettes
Hourglass offers different variations of their face palettes:
1. Ambient Lighting Palette (Trio)
This is the original, permanent palette that focuses purely on finishing powders. It typically contains three shades of their Ambient Lighting Powders designed to be dusted all over the face as a final step to perfect and blend your makeup.
-
Goal: To filter light and give a subtle, perfected, multidimensional luminescence to the entire complexion.
-
Examples: Volume I (Dim Light, Incandescent Light, Radiant Light), Volume II, and Volume III (with shades catering to different skin tones).
2. Ambient Lighting Edit Palettes (Limited Edition)
These are larger, limited-edition palettes (often released for the holidays) that offer a more comprehensive face routine. They typically feature 4 to 6 pans of mixed products.
-
Goal: To provide a complete face look—diffuse, enhance, and add glow—in a single compact.
-
Contents: They contain a curated mix of different Hourglass products:
-
Ambient Lighting Finishing Powder: For all-over blurring.
-
Ambient Lighting Blush: For color and radiance on the cheeks.
-
Ambient Lighting Bronzer: For warmth and definition.
-
Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder: A more intense highlighter for the high points of the face.
-
-
Packaging: These palettes are frequently released as part of the "Ambient Lighting Edit Unlocked" collection, featuring unique, limited-edition artwork (like the recent Deer, Swan, or Fox palettes) and often supporting the Nonhuman Rights Project.
How to Use the Powders
The powders are designed to be the last step in your complexion routine (the "finish"), applied after foundation, setting powder, bronzer, and blush.
-
Finishing Powder: Use a large, fluffy brush to lightly dust the powder all over your face to blur imperfections and create a seamless, non-cakey finish.
-
Blush/Bronzer/Strobe: Apply the colored powders (if you have an Edit palette) to the appropriate areas of the face for color, warmth, and highlight.
-
Layering: The powders are meant to be layered for a customized, multidimensional glow.
The result is subtle, sophisticated radiance that mimics the effect of perfect lighting on your skin.
